Museum of the Future: Community Art Pop Up Series *
What is the future we’re dreaming into — for Graton, for our watershed, for the human and more-than-humans of this place?
Calling all artists! Join us to co-create a community arts pop-up as part of the Museum of the Future — a 5-month public art series in the heart of Graton. This is an invitation to spark reflection, collaboration, and imagination around who we are and where we’re headed, with the community as active participants in that journey.
Upcoming Community Arts Pop Ups
Artist Invitation
Design and lead a public art experience that is interactive, participatory, or co-created with community members — something that inspires and welcomes people of all ages into a shared story of place, identity, and possibility.
Whether it’s a collaborative mural, an immersive storytelling environment, an altar-building ritual, or something we haven’t thought of yet — we are looking for artists to engage the community on one interactive Saturday event, with installations lasting a month (or longer).

Dream Design Co-Create
Museum of the Future Community Arts Pop Up Series is made possible by the generous grant-making organizations Creative Sonoma and the County of Sonoma.
Hoped-For Outcomes
A felt sense of agency and belonging— our community seeing itself more clearly and feeling part of a shared dream
Temporary beautification/enlivening of the Town Square that seeds longer arcs of community public arts in Graton and our surrounding Green Valley watershed
Opportunities for artists to prototype and platform their work
Examples
Activating forest restoration to upcycle timber into a ‘Re-Storyation Labyrinth’ - example application from Activation No. 1
A participatory mural day along the back fence of the Square
An interactive sound or light installation in/around the Museum of the Future
A guided storytelling experience or poetry activation
A pop-up art studio with community-made creations
Creative Challenge
Each popup will leave behind a small “relic, prayer, or message to the future” for our community time capsule. This might be:
a photo or short video from the popup
a piece of art created collaboratively
a soundscape or oral story recorded that day
or anything else that captures the spirit of the moment
Logistics & Timing
When: One of five available Saturdays (July–November 2025), with a 2–3 hour activation window (typically 1–4pm).
Optional: Artists may also propose an hour-long Friday school field trip to increase youth engagement with their exhibit
Where: Graton Town Square, indoor at the Museum of the Future (a repurposed shipping container installation) or anywhere around the 0.6 acre site.
Artist Support
Stipend + Materials Budget: $500 - $1500
In-Kind Supplies: Access to donated materials via The Legacy, a Sebastopol resale fabric and craft store.
Installation Support: Up to 4 hours of hands-on help from the ReVillage team, led by local artist & co-organizer Cristina Valverde.
Values and Vision
We’re seeking projects that:
Uplift inclusivity and imagination
Reflect the cultural legacies, stories, and ecosystems of the Green Valley / Graton
Are easy and joyful for both the artist and the community to say "yes" to
Offer a seed of something larger — inspiration for future community collaborations.
